Wikipedia says the reviews were mixed, and Ben Brantley in the N.Y. Times called it one of Broadway's ''all-time most forgettable musicals.''
I couldn't disagree more. I saw ''High Fidelity'' several times because I loved Amanda Green's witty lyrics and Tom Kitt's rockin' music.
The show got a celebrated revival in 2008 at the New Line Theatre in St. Louis, and its artistic director, Scott Miller, championed it.
Miller wrote a very extensive essay, arguing that the critics, like Brantley, and even the show's director misjudged its many merits. |
