| Thanks for posting this, and I'll definitely be listening. I saw what I believe was the Houston Grand Opera production on Showtime (?) a couple of times in 1998 and I've been in love with the show ever since. | |

| Mine too. I just purchased Naxos' release of excerpts from a concert production at Hollywood Bowl with much of the original Broadway cast. This CD has much more music than the OBC cast album on Columbia does and is a fascinating document. There are two complete recordings, both of which are quite good, people will have to decide for themselves which is better, although I have my opinion, as well as several video versions, none of which I find particularly good. | |

| There have been four videos of this great Broadway opera. Two of them --Houston Grand Opera (filmed in Germany) and the recent production at Teatro Real, Madrid-- are commercially available. The latter, in English and available on Blu-ray, is quite a disappointment, despite the presence of Patricia Racette as Mrs. Maurant. The first two telecasts --never commercially released-- are the New York City Opera live PBS telecast from 1979, and the English National Opera production (1992), the latter shown only in the UK. Of these four video productions, the first one, from City Opera, is by far the best. |

| Here's a link to the English National Opera video on YouTube. I think it's pretty wonderful, especially Lesley Garrett as Rose. | |

| I'll bet that's the one I attended live with Catherine Malfitano as Rose. It was a special treat to hear this British broadcast. "Street Scene" has always been one of my favorites. I sure wish the Met would do it; especially since they just did Porgy. Last time I saw it was at the late, lamented Di Capo Opera Company. I guess Amore could do it, too. Maybe even the new ly reformed NYC Opera would do it; after all, they did "Candide" recently. | |
