This has been a strong season off-Broadway, and a less-strong one on Broadway. I wonder if we'll see an unprecedented number of off-Broadway nominees (although I think the final winners will be dominated by Broadway shows, as usual).

It also comes down to the tastes of the nominators. At the Drama Desks, there are only 7 of them, so each carries a lot of weight. In 2009, ''9 to 5'' led the Drama Desk nominations with 15 - which is even more than ''The Producers'' (14) and ''Hamilton'' (13) in their seasons. Which was quite a contrast from the Tony nominations, which only gave it 4 and snubbed it for Best Musical.
