Who turned down Eponine in LES MISERABLES to do SMILE?

This was mentioned briefly at the "Stars in the House" LES MIZ reunion the other day. Francess Rufelle, who originated the role of Eponine in London, was brought over last minute to recreate the role on Broadway after the original actress turned them down to star in the Broadway flop SMILE. I am thinking it was either Jodi Benson or Anne Marie Bobby. Anyone know which it was? If it was Benson I suppose it was a good choice since SMILE lead her to "The Little Mermaid".

It was Anne Bobby.

Anne Bobby was never a replacement Eponine over the decades the show was on Broadway or on tour. I wonder if there was bad blood over the manner in which she turned down the part, or if she was just focused on other kinds of work in those years.

Then, for the LES MISERABLES revival, Lea Michele turned down Eponine to appear in SPRING AWAKENING. Which for her was definitely a good choice.
