| Wow wow WOW...NEVER thought I would EVER get to see this!! Google All Arts Vault & then search on there...incredible work from a cast starring James Earl Jones & Raul Julia...MAGNIFICENT!! Height of Mr Papp's era at The Delacorte, long before I was old enough to be aware/able to attend these on my own with friends, so thought the chances of seeing productions from this time there were shot. Maybe the clearest, most vivid production of LEAR I have ever seen...beyond grateful, & dearly hope they keep this available online for a long while! Perfect comfort as we face this venue having to be closed this summer... | |

| That was the first show I ever saw at the Delacorte, and it was a completely thrilling experience. Come to think of it, it was probably the first Shakespeare play I ever saw live. I remember being astonished at how easy it was to understand the language. I had expected to struggle more. And I remember crying at the end. Over the years I've come to dislike Lear. Perhaps I've seen it too many times. But Lear is such a jerk that I've lost all sympathy for him. But that night, the show was heartbreaking. |

| This was broadcast on PBS, then issued on both VHS and later DVD in Kultur’s Broadway Theatre Archives. You can still find used copies, but nothing beats free streaming online! Laura |
