My wish--and this is said with good humor and not a sense of entitlement because I am thrilled this happening no matter what they sing--is a wish for greater divergence from singing through the greatest hits of Company and Follies. I love those shows as much as the next person. Heck, Follies is my favorite Sondheim show. But I am always a bit sad to see some of the other works barely represented. Like how odd was it during the last Sondheim birthday concert that with Donna Murphy, Marin Mazzie, and Michael Cerveris (plus LuPone and McDonald having been in major productions) all on hand that we couldn't get a few minutes of something from Passion? Or anything from Assassins or Pacific Overtures. I understand these are filled with very plot specific songs, but there should be a way to make it work in a concert. How lovely would it be to hear Poems, for example? I'm guessing Night Music was skipped over in that concert because of the revival? Just one song from Into the Woods. Anyhow, that's my wish :-)

I think if Mr. Sondheim has a new or recent song he would like to be performed, he will call upon his many talented friends and/or colleagues to sing it. But he is under no obligation to give us "new things to hear". He has given us a bounty, already.

What do you think the object of the celebration ought to be? the celebrants? or the celebrated? I would think a painful reminder would be the last thing the celebrated would want on this festive occasion.

What Exactly Do You Mean By Painful Reminder. Your Comment Does Not Make Sense. Mr. Sondheim,I Believe Would Be Honored That There Is More To See In The Future. The Music And Lyrics Will
Go On !

Why do you capitalize the first letter of your every word? It makes it very annoying to read.

I think he meant Sondheim might not enjoy hearing a song from a project that has been shelved, which of course is as much conjecture as the original post. I’d point out that historically Sondheim’s work has been largely unfinished when rehearsals start.

Yes that is what I meant, and yes it is conjecture. What I took from the original post was that it was "us" focused.
