I believe the Columbia Masterworks LP recording of Pal Joey had that image of a white seal at the top of the front cover which contained the wording ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST****. The CD (which I have in front of me) states on the spine and on the top of the back cover Broadway Cast Recording, even though this was a studio cast recording made on 9/20-22/50. Vivienne Segal (the original Vera Simpson) and Harold Lang sang the lead roles with Beverly Fite, Barbara Ashley, Jo Hurt, and Kenneth Remo rounding out the cast as Linda, Gladys, Melba, and Ludlow. The Columbia LP was an enormous success and apparently led to the Broadway revival, which opened a year and 3 months later on 1/03/52. Segal and Lang were again cast as Vera and Joey, but Pat Northrup, Helen Gallagher, Elaine Stritch, and Lionel Stander played the featured roles.

The '52 revival of Pal Joey received its own recording with Northrup, Gallagher, and Stritch preserving their performances on the Capitol LP. Apparently Stander's role as Ludlow in the revival was non-singing. Dick Beavers and Jane Froman sang the lead roles of Joey and Vera. This '52 recording contained (on the front cover) a red rectangular box with white letter wording BROADWAY CAST. Above the large rectangular box in very small black letters were the words WITH MEMBERS OF THE.
