Going on memory here (and, let's be honest, I'm not getting any younger.)
Beetlejuice came up at the top of the show, through the front of the orchestra pit - and it started with Lydia's ballady part before it got at all into the first song ("The Whole Being Dead Thing," which was basically the same, although there could have been lyric changes.)
Beetlejuice was much more lustful toward Barbara and Adam, especially Adam. Its was relentless.
Lydia had a second song in Act 1 about her mother. ("Dead Mom" was the same song in the same place.)
Both Barbara and Lydia's Father had ballads in Act 2. Neither really stuck. Barbara's played into the subplot about her not being able to have children. This song was right where the "Maitland 2.0" song is now. The new song's better. I don't remember the specifics of Lydia's dad song but it was right around where she sings her big 'Home' song and was part of their catharsis. It was short too, may have just been a verse or even a reprise of something else.
Leslie Kritzer didn't play Miss Argentina in DC, it was a member of the chorus but she didn't do much other than stand there during the boy band song (which ... didn't work.)
There were a couple other reprises of "The Whole Dead Thing" sprinkled throughout. Most of the changes were in the book, mostly dialing down the profanity and only keeping the funniest raunchy bits.
The finale was just "Shake Senora" without layering in the themes from the actual score.
And I liked Lydia's blonde wig better. |
