| ...is for Raul Esparza and Sutton Foster to sing “With So Little To Be Sure Of.” Not only is the title so appropriate for the current moment, but so is the last line, with all the desire and hesitancy the words and the moment carry: “Hold me...Hold me...” | |

| I've *never* liked that song. I know I should. I get the sentiment of it, and it's well placed...but I find the melody just boring and awful. However, Sutton and Raul singing it? Maybe that would elevate it for me. I've only ever heard Lee Remich and Harry Guardino's version...neither of them the strongest singers... I'll delve into this link and see if it changes my heinous opinion. ;) |

| I think the song is one of Sondheim's top ten best(not easy making that list) I'd love to hear Steven Pasqaule and Kelli O'Hara sing it together...and play those roles in a production |

| As a huge fan of this song, I would say that if you don't like it from the original recording I doubt you will come to, while Lee and Harry aren't the greatest singers ever their exceptionally decent voices do this song full justice in my opinion and are well suited to it. | |

| I agree that Lee Remick and Harry Guardino do right by the song, but Sutton and Raul’s voices — not to mention the way they act out the song in that Encores video — take it to a whole different level. Still, while I wasn’t fortunate enough to have seen Lee and Harry on stage, I have a feeling their performances would have more than compensated for their less than “beautiful” voices if the latter happens to be a sticking point for a particular listener. | |

| While I do really like Sutton's voice in/for this, I prefer Lee Remicks for it... and I may as well come out and say that I think Sutton's voice does almost no role she's played any favors other than Millie, and she has one of the most unremarkable and unimpressive voices I've ever heard from a reigning broadway star in the history of broadway musicals. :) That's not to say I don't enjoy very much and find her wonderful and her singing voice totally good (though again specific, but not in a unique way or in an impressive way), but... it's her charm and likability and the timing of her getting Millie that are responsible for her musical theater stardom because it can't be her (very capable and good but nothing actually special) singing voice. |

| You and I actually agree on this on the whole. I've been a HUGE fan of Raul Esparza's voice since Tick, Tick, Boom! and I think the quality of that voice combined with Sutton's solid vocal skills make for a beautiful and touching rendition of this song. That said, on its own, there's nothing particularly memorable or special about Sutton's voice. I remember watching her Lincoln Center special on PBS a while back and finding it, to my surprise, somewhat lackluster. Don't get me wrong: I think she deserves all the success she has gotten. She's a triple threat and has charisma to spare when she's playing a role on stage. But absent the acting, dancing, and storytelling components of a complete theatrical performance, the voice doesn't quite hold my attention. | |

| hardly a concert, that is from the Encores staging, which as we all know, while technically a staged concert "reading", is basically a fully staged (and choreographed) production with costumes and some sets, where everyone is off-book but holds the script as a reference for union contract reasons. And the ACW Encores, in particular, was f*cking fantastic. |

| Yes! I was just rewatching that for the nth time last night. Since Raul is organizing and hosting the benefit and Sutton is one of the slated performers, I hope they’ll perform that duet. | |
