| You and I actually agree on this on the whole. I've been a HUGE fan of Raul Esparza's voice since Tick, Tick, Boom! and I think the quality of that voice combined with Sutton's solid vocal skills make for a beautiful and touching rendition of this song. That said, on its own, there's nothing particularly memorable or special about Sutton's voice. I remember watching her Lincoln Center special on PBS a while back and finding it, to my surprise, somewhat lackluster. Don't get me wrong: I think she deserves all the success she has gotten. She's a triple threat and has charisma to spare when she's playing a role on stage. But absent the acting, dancing, and storytelling components of a complete theatrical performance, the voice doesn't quite hold my attention. |
