keikekaze, thanks for pointing out that webpage! I have always wondered which Golden Age musicals had had big successes on the pop charts, and I never thought to look through Wikipedia to figure that out. It looks like Ezio Pinza's version of Some Enchanted Evening also made the Top 10.
I did a little more prowling, and in the UK, Vic Damone's On the Street Where You Live hit No. 1 in 1958, which is the same year as My Fair Lady's UK premiere. His version hit No. 4 in the US in 1956, which was My Fair Lady's Broadway debut year. |
