IMHO, before we delve into the discussion of "fluff vs. substance," it seems prudent to look for insight, intelligence and leadership on possible scenarios of how it's going to look.
Is streaming the best alternative, in the short term, and acknowledging that it's not as satisfying as live theater?
Will all concerned realize that drastic readjusting to financial realities is paramount? ALL will be painful, yet nothing will remain unscathed or unchanged. Union contracts need to be virtually tossed out and re-considered. Theater owners need to face reality: no one can pay what they used to pay. Talent won't make the kind of money they used to get.
There was a great article in the NYTimes today (linked) about what restaurants are thinking and doing in light of the pandemic. We need similar discussions, thoughts and leadership from the living arts community (theater, dance, opera).
Or am I missing something?
And thanks.
