I also would've loved to see ''Soft Power'' win something, especially since it led the Drama Desk nominations with the most: 11.

And I would've rooted for Ricamora over Borle, too, even though I still feel Ricamora should've been in the Leading Actor category.

Anyway, ''Soft Power'' wasn't alone in going home empty-handed. ''The Wrong Man,'' which got the second-most DD nominations, went 0 for 9. ''The Secret Lives of Bees'' and ''The Unsinkable Molly Brown'' both were 0 for 7. (''Octet'' and ''Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven'' both went 1 for 8.)

Still, it proved to be a record night for Off-Broadway wins because the nominators chose such a disappointingly, paltry number of Broadway candidates. Among the 41 nominated leading and featured actors/actresses from plays and musicals, only 8 of them came from Broadway shows.

Historically, the Drama Desk voters usually favor the Broadway shows, and given a chance to vote for one, they often do.

Even though ''Moulin Rouge!'' was shut out of nominations for Best Musical, direction and acting categories, it still won more than any other Broadway musical, going 5 for 5: for its choreography, scenic design, costumes, lighting and sound.
