Probably. Buckley makes it sound like it was all people who had had a big hit. I guess Beechman had had Annie but she was then just doing swing work in Pirates of Penzance at the time of Cats.
We've discussed this before but Lorna Luft says in her book she auditioned and then they had her work with the musical director for months to prepare. She then read in the paper that Buckley was cast. People on here thought it was doubtful that a show would pay to train an actress for months like that. (and it is odd that Luft never replaced or did the LA production.) |
