Flop Musicals of the Twenty-First Century, So Far...

I received the book today, and I am thus far disappointed. The introduction discusses how space is too limited to cover too many shows, yet the book is only 108 pages. Future volumes are promised. The introduction notes that much of its content is based on memories of participants and promises to correct mistakes in future editions. Was the book fact checked?

In the first, brief chapter about Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, there is no material that anyone reading published accounts in the Times, Post, Variety, etc. would not already know. (There are some potentially confusing moments. For instance, the author correctly refers to the theatre by both its names - the Hilton and Foxwoods - without letting the reader know that the theatre had changed names rather than the production changing theatres.)

I’m a bit confused by the book’s target audience. It is too brief/cursory for a seasoned theatergoer and too expensive to be read by the average theatergoer. I’ll keep reading, but I cannot recommend it. Should something drastically change, I’ll be happy to return and eat my hat.
