Losing Mercury Theater is a real tragedy. They recently expanded their operation to include a second, smaller performing space. My partner and I saw countless musicals and plays there (going back to '96), but mostly since 2011 when Walter Stearns took over as Artistic Director. Highlights over the years include Pope Joan, A Twist of Water, Barnum, The Color Purple, Addams Family, besides the shows you mentioned.
In addition, although not as bad a blow, but Steep Theatre's lease will not be extended in their current Edgewater location. Hopefully, they will find another spot in the same neighborhood. |
