I'm afraid that The Mercury and The iO (formerly ImprovOlympic) may just be the tip of the iceberg for the smaller Chicago theaters. Back in '98 my partner and I saw the Guare-McDermott musical Two Gentlemen of Verona at ImprovOlympic, very entertaining production of a show that is rarely done.
We're also huge fans of Pride Films and Plays. We've seen 17 of their productions since 2013, most of them excellent. Some of the best were Some Men, The Children's Hour, The Submission, The Nance, His Greatness, Yank!, Homos or Everyone in America, Afterglow, and the two you mentioned. I hope they can hold on and hang in there. |
