Oh, I know she popularized it. And because of that, many people and sources think it’s original with her. That’s what bugs me.
Richards said she took it from a lecture of Linda Ellerbee’s; Ellerbee has said she got it from a fellow passenger on a bus or a plane. Either of those ladies could have picked it up from Ronald Reagan, who used it in 1988 at the suggestion of writer/ambassador Faith Whittlesey. Whittlesey used it as the title of her autobiography. For that matter, Obama and Hilary both used it, too.
But Bob Thaves was the source.
