I agree with your last paragraph: this is not viable in (at least most) theatre situations. I think that patent was designed for operating rooms but perhaps it could work in classroom settings although probably only lectures (student participation would still be an issue) and in many/most lecture halls, social distancing would not be an issue so no mask would be needed by the professor. Regardless I think it remains clear that a lot of education is going to have issues "normalizing" as is the theatre. Without effective treatment, I continue to believe the most we can expect would be smallish plays that don't require much if any crew, and can be blocked for safety. If you can achieve that, I have also had someone mention the possibility of separating the audience by a scrim. (One other strategy would be to cast co-habitants, so for instance the Plaza Suite idea might have legs if everyone else can be blocked properly, though this still does not reach getting an audience safe enough to have a viable project.)
The patent I am waiting for (and that I realized the importance of as it has gotten hotter) is a mask that integrates a straw. Can you put your patent sleuthing to work on that, please? |
