I saw the 90's production at BAM. It was staged in a very small playing area with dry ice rolling in and out like sea fog. It had a feeling of a group of people stranded on a raft lost in the middle of the sea. I found it unrelentingly tragic and rather monotone but others I saw it with were very moved. I think this was for me one of the few productions of Bergman that I saw in Swedish that failed for not being done in English. But Bergman's production seemed to feel that the text and the performances were the main things that were needed and it showed a great deal of respect for and confidence in O'Neill's play.
