A lot of the writers’ points are true or partly true, although a lot is also opinion. There is greed in the theatre. And a desire to be a success. And great actors have always been replaced for stars; ironically so, when a great actor turns into a star after having been passed over for a star. (I’m remembering, and I think I’m right, when Christopher Reeve replaced the then-unknown William Hurt when FIFTH OF JULY transferred to Broadway.). It’s a competitive place. And also a noisy place, and sometimes the squeaky wheel that’s not always the most authentic gets the oil.

I’m still a little confused about what happened with Diane Paulus (and, yes, such friction between playwright and director is quite common), plus I thought she wasn’t technically a white person.

The article left me feeling sad. And I thought the critique of Jordan Roth didn’t have real substance because he is an effective producer who takes some risks and creates jobs. That’s what’s important.
