| And still a minority opinion, "Weekend in the Country" sometimes seems to be missing Desiree |

This discussion about the second act really is a revelation to me. The fact that Anne and Henrik don't get even a brief duet of sorts is strange. But I never thought about it. Over the years, I've I have always wondered why Desiree didn't get a verse of "Weekend," but it hit home for me when Peters went into the show. With a singing actor playing Desiree, the primemover in the very reason for the song, and her involvement in the staging, one expects her to sing. I just felt it strongly then. Few agree.
But very unrelated if the same point -- who sings when and why -- I don't understand why Angelica doesn't sing in the opening number of Hamilton. She's historically notable for being a brilliant correspondent, someone who naturally annotates Alexander's life; if anything her role in cataloging his triumphs and misteps the most organic. Yet Miranda keeps her out of the opening narration beyond her shout-out, when she would logically offer verses. |
