Agree that this is another instance of heightened emotion taking the place of rationed argument or even persuasive discourse.

As noted below, Eustis has a relationship with Marvel and - obviously - she is a bigger draw than Day. You might not know her name, but significant audiences can recognize her face and work from her extensive tv career.

Of course playwrights want stars in their plays ... if that's what it takes for their plays to get produced in NYC, be put on the map, and have healthy subsequent regional runs, then that's what it takes. Why would Nottage fight for a less famous cast if it endangers the chances of a NY transfer? How the author can in one breath criticize star casting and also how new plays regularly lose money makes me laugh.

The Jordan Roth tangent is entirely without substance.

In this climate, nonprofits are damned if they do and damned if they don't. I agree that older artistic directors have to go (Lynne Meadows' last outing with "The Perplexed" was one of the worst shows of last year), but these companies regularly lose money producing new work by non-white playwrights and get torn down by woke activists for their troubles. "Slave Play" lost money both at NYTW and on Broadway. I doubt "Fairview" has made money for any theatre company that has produced it. When the claim is that these nonprofit companies make money off the work of BIPOC artists (echoed in this article and elsewhere lately), I have no idea what they're referring to.
