| The 1962 film of ''Gypsy,'' starring Rosalind Russell, recently was on Turner Classic Movies. And I noticed that Paul Wallace, who originated the role of Tulsa in 1959, got to re-create his number, ''All I Need Is the Girl.'' For the film, he got a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. In the Broadway musical, Dainty June elopes with Tulsa. But in the movie, Dainty June elopes with Jerry, another dancer. Tulsa is at the train station, alongside Herbie and Louise, before they all get the news that Louise has run off. Anyone know why this plot point was altered for the big screen? |
