The role of Tulsa requires a very good dancer who has a certain look. It's not a test of -- or challenge to -- a performer's singing or acting ability. Tony Yazbeck was simply over-qualified. He brought much more to the table than was needed or exhibited.
I remember how (pleasantly) shocked I was by his performance in On The Town where his singing was world-class. And he had no trouble acting a leading man role. A true triple threat (which Tulsa need not be).
