| As an alternative to my Tony Party this year, I asked my friends to vote for their favorites, decade by decade, in six categories: Play, Musical, Actor and Actress in both. I compiled those to establish a final ballot of best-of-best for the last 50 years. Results: Nicholas Nickleby and Sweeney Todd were almost unanimous, as was Roger Rees in NN. Two categories had no consensus, but the surprise to me, beating out Angela Lansbury, was Christine Ebersole in Grey Gardens. (Email me if you'd like the ballots for your own competition.) |
