My proposals, as a starting point, would be nationwide single payer health care, across the board increase in wages for staff matched by a decrease in profits at the very top, truly affordable tickets, and the resignation of non-profit Leadership who have been at the helm of their institutions for 15 years or more.
Am I ready to give up? Today I am. I hear your critique, and I'm listening to it. At the same time, I've spent the past five years working very hard to try and fix what's broken in our theater industry (which is not the same thing as theater itself), for criminally low wages, and I'm looking around and seeing how worthless most of that work was. It's possible I've reached the end of my tether. It's also possible next week I'll be back in fighting form. Either way, I think I've lost faith in trying to fix this thing from within, as opposed to letting it burn down and making a new industry - which is not the same as theater - in its place. |
