I didn't go to the Fish production. Ok, technically Curley doesn't kill Jud -- but he does end up dead at the end of the show and chiefly because of the actions of Laurey and Curley. What I meant to say is, because Laurey lies to Curley that she is going with Jud, then agrees to go with Jud, and she subsequently horsewhips, humiliates him and leaves him, he is clearly disturbed. Curley also makes fun of Jud in "Pore Jud Is Daid" (even if some stagings make it seem like Jud doesn't seem to know he is being needled). Because of Laurey's and Curley's actions in perturbing a rather disturbed guy, he ends up dead at the end of the show. Had he not been humiliated by them, and had Laurey not used him to make Curley jealous, Jud might still have been alive -- perhaps to have some other kind of breakdown or manifestation later on if he didn't receive some kind of help. But he is not being helped -- no, he is being teased and used and is killed, in a way, because Curley and Laurey think his feelings are insignificant and can easily be dispensed with.
