| It's one thing to just automatically port over everyone into performances 6 or 7 months after the ones they bought tickets for, with no warning and (apparently) no easy button to process a similarly automatic refund. But then on top of that to insist that all exchanges must be made less than a month from now, at a time when this virus is still increasing in (at this writing) 29 out of 50 states, for performances 10 to 20 months away, is utterly ludicrous. Not only do they have no way of knowing for sure whether or not Broadway will be open, let alone whether there'll be a vaccine, whether there'll be an even worse second wave, etc... there's also no way of knowing for each individual ticketholder whether he or she will be in NYC, will be ALLOWED to be in NYC, whether they'll be healthy, whether they'll be dead, or whether they'll have moved to Philadelphia. I suspect many will just take the exchange they've been given and then, much as the show is doing, take a wait-and-see and hope-for-the-best approach. But if the show goes on as scheduled and then months from now for health reasons it turns out a ticketholder is unable to attend, Telecharge will I think be forced to honor exchanges and/or refunds for this one.... If they'd refunded everyone's tickets and then had people book from scratch (as The Minutes, Flying Over Sunset, Caroline or Change etc. will be doing), that'd be one thing. But unlike virtually every other Broadway ticket transaction, I don't see how an email notifying that you were moved to a random performance date, a date that in some cases will be two years after the original date of purchase, and with a similarly random cut-off date to make changes roughly a year in advance, will be in any way enforceable as a final sale. |
