| The definition you quote is accurate, as far as it goes. But a literary estate is not a reference to that definition but rather to property that is, for whatever reason, being administered whether by will or trust. So... yes it could commonly be understood to apply to a person who is still breathing but it would be relatively unlikely for it to be appropriate in reference to Paul Simon. That said, there are reasons that one might put assets under the control of a third party, and I do not know for a fact that Simon has or has not done so, but I seriously doubt that the person writing the word "estate" here knows either. So my sense is that it is likely a bad choice of word. |
