I read Slate regularly, and I like much of their stuff. But a lot of their articles have a clickbait-y contrary premise like this one. They deliberately take the exact opposite stance of what you expect so that you read the article.
There was an article just a day or two ago that's called something like, "Who cares if the IRS sent stimulus checks to a million dead people?" I'm used to it now and just ignore all those "shocking" articles.
