It's often forgotten that, even with her Broadway and West End success in "West Side Story" and "Bye Bye Birdie," Chita Rivera was absent from Broadway for ten years, 1965-1975, or from "Bajour" to "Chicago."

Among the many jobs she took during that period were second-leading-lady roles in two new musicals for L.A./S.F. Civic Light Opera, "1491" and "Zenda." Both closed after their West Coast engagements.

In addition, she kept busy with the title role in the national tour of "Sweet Charity," many TV appearances, and numerous roles in stock.

Plus a supporting lead in the film version of "Charity" and the Leader in the national tour of "Zorba" with John Raitt and Barbara Baxley.
