But anyone who believes the show offers nothing beyond the album would miss that jaw-dropping staging of “Satisfied” where tine rewinds and we see the meeting between Hamilton and Angelica from her perspective. One of the most thrilling scenes on Broadway in years, and you have to be in the room where it happens.
Eh, so I do think Satisfied is one of the best numbers of the show, but if you listen to Helpless and Satisfied closely (which I did many times before seeing the show) on the OBC, you pretty much know what is happening. It's quite clear they're playing the same scene from different perspectives and they "rewind" at the end of one. Yes, it's genius. But I didn't need to SEE it to understand that. And of course Mandy Gonzalez (I think) couldn't really hold a candle to Renee.
Now, Elphaba getting on a forklift? That's theatrical magic! (Kidding. Not really. Kind of. Maybe. ;) ) |
