| Who else thought Hoffman was canceled? He wasn't Spacey but the information was damning; has he worked much since? It's always nice to have Our Town on the horizon. I'd see it without him or any star. |

| Given all the famous people who've gone down over the last few years for bad behavior, Hoffman included, how the hell has Scott Rudin managed to escape unscathed? This is a guy who's famous for throwing people out of cabs on highways and tossing phones at people's heads. As talented a producer as he is, he shouldn't be allowed to get away with this shit anymore. I hope that he's brought down. | |

| I don't know anything about Rudin, other than that he does have the reputation of being difficult/challenging/demanding/whatever to work with or for. But, every so often, his office posts an advertisement for an office assistant that, if you read between the lines, makes it seem like working there is hell on earth. The fact that a nearly identical advertisement seems to pop up every couple of months also isn't a great indicator that this is a wonderful place to work. | |

| The staff turnover there is constant. I'd imagine it's well beyond anything you can find between the lines. | |

| As the controversy in West Side Story demonstrated, Scott Rudin doesn't believe in "canceling". I'm personally glad he doesn't. You or I may see it without a star, but you know that most people will not pay Broadway prices for a revival of an old play without a star. |

| I'd rather see Hoffman originate a role in a new contemporary play, using his star power to help spotlight an up-and-coming writer. | |

| I'm so with you on that point. Even a six month run in a new script would give a play event status. Even Midler went out on a limb of sorts in Logan's piece on Sue Mengers (which is never mentioned in discussions of her Dolly phenom). No, Logan is far from an unkown, but it was synergy of star and material that had no built-in audience. | |

| For me it's going to be difficult to top the David Cromer production downtown. | |

| I loved the Cromer, and saw it quite late with Michael Shannon, a performance devoid of sentimentality, even a bit menacing. But I can't say that I've ever seen a production that didn't work. Even in a middle school, the stage manager role divided among seven girls who played it as a small town knitting circle, telling the story (not approved by the estate, but damned if it didn't work beautifully). | |

| The Cromer Our Town was a highlight of my long theater going life. Of the many productions I had seen through the years this was the one where I got it. | |

| I agree with your assertions about the Cromer production. It was a revelation about a play I had known and loved and THOUGHT I knew. It was one of the highlights of my theater-going life, and as much as I admire Sher's work (South Pacific especially), I can't imagine how that experience could be topped. | |
