| Anyone wondering if Disney+ may crash this weekend? | |

| Or stall out? I remember when popular series returned to Hulu ("Handmaid's Tale," famously), and the overload caused it to completely freeze up. I can't help but wondering if all of those folks plunking down $6.99 -- me among 'em -- might land on the same general window, and create problems. Possible? Or were the Hulu problems so 2017, and fixed now? I have FIOS, by the way, a fast internet. |

| I’ve been saying that since they announced it would stream, although I more dramatically predicted it would “break the internet.” | |

| I don't think so. This is not like a singular event that has a time-critical aspect, and it is a long weekend. People will watch it in due course, some already, some tonight, some when the weather is not so good. Yes of course there will be fanatics, but this is a weekend for (hopefully safe) barbecues and the like, and many will arrange their viewing around that. Also, I feel reasonably certain that Disney is not going to throw away its shot at retaining a new audience for its product. Anyway, we shall see soon enough. I am accustomed to waiting longer to be proven wrong. | |

| I assume it will. It crashed a lot when they launched. | |

| The real test will be the 8-11 p.m. "watch parties" tomorrow | |

| Hopefully they've got some extra server power ready! | |

| I'm so IT challenged, I'm just proud that I added Disney+ to my Roku with relative ease. Is it a server issue? And a -- what's the word, traffic? -- # of simultaneous streamings aspect? When Handmaid's Tale returned the first time (S 2), Hulu would stall during prime time. It was maddening, but it self-corrected. Again, I have relatively fast Wifi via FIOS and few problems. But I will not count on smooth sailing this weekend. Still no end date to the viewing window? Didn't we initially hear it was only for the weekend? Was that an internet rumor? |

| I’ve heard nothing about a ‘viewing window’... | |

| ... and if there is one it certainly won’t be for only 48 hours. Disney paid $75 million for the movie, so I think it’s safe to say it will be a permanent/indefinite part of their library, rather than being available for only 2 days. |

| Is it possible that it might be taken down then? Just a curiosity. We all know many cases of shows unhampered by film treatments; yet this is the actual original performance and staging. Not a cinematic interpretation. The Phantom/Chicago model doesn't quite apply. But who know? This is unprecedented. Can't think of anything comparable, ever. One now wonders about the Spielberg West Side Story. Not that it will be streamed, but the assumption that a December 18th release seems wishful thinking. |

| I don't think so. Disney bought it to exploit, and I have heard no suggestion (and would be shocked) that there were restrictions in their purchase. Disney does not have a stake in the stage performances. | |

| Thank you. I may be alone in my speculations, but everything about this digital release has been a surprise to me. I just today read the 6/25 Times article that explains the bidding war, how Iger finally negotiated a sale. And how Miranda and others were a firm no initially about the platform exposure we're being provided. They wanted to hold off. So perhaps -- incomplete info -- that explains why I presumed some sort of blackout with the stage iteration resuming. But I'm guessing here, too: this version's existence will only whet appetites for the live show. Hamilton is now also a brand, a cultural artifact, the known thing. It's gained a new luster: it represents fandom and obsession prior to Covid. And -- not for this board -- another era of America. It's done the impossible, moved from beloved show-of-the-moment into something akin to nostalgia-inducing. I saw the show 10/4/15, and just seeing a piece of "Satisfied" made me tear up, reconnecting not only with the material and gorgous staging but also, frankly 2015. I suspect I'm not alone in that. |

| With your reminder that the original deal did not include streaming, I am somewhat less confident about what I said. Maybe there will be a sunset, but I would not think it would be anytime soon (because I don't think the return to movie houses or live theatre will be). I agree with you about things that prompt nostalgia for what I have been calling the age of innocence, although I am more optimistic about the future than a lot of people (because I welcome the new normal and think it can be a better normal, but I digress). | |
