| Poor Eve Arden dodged a bullet on that one. | |

| Except that the producer said that they had fired her because she wasn't up to it. But I think no one noticed that he said that. At least one critic, smarmy Leonard Harris on CBS, congratulated Arden for having left it. It's too bad that she didn't come back to Broadway in a success. I wonder if they ever considered having her take over in Hello, Dolly!, which she played in Chicago when Channing left to make Thoroughly Modern Millie, or Butterflies Are Free, which she did on tour. | |

| My parents actually saw Eve Arden in the Dolly tour when it played Chicago. They both raved about how funny and touching she was in the show. | |
