I would love to know how many people subscribed to Disney + for just this one month!

With my cable TV service (AT&T) you can not subscribe to something like Disney Plus for just one month. The minimum is most likely at least one year, possibly two. If you insist on cancelling, they'll bill you for the entire amount plus a penalty. If you don't pay the charge promptly, they'll immediately turn it over to a collection agency.

If there was something like a free trial for 3 months (like there is right now for HBO), that is a different arrangement. If you cancel before the 3-month deadline, there is no charge but you have to keep track of the cancelation date or you'll be screwed.

I've already seen Hamilton 5 times on stage, including once at the Public, once on Broadway, and three times in Chicago. I've listened to the recording dozens of times. If it's shown in a movie theater next year, I most likely would be interested in seeing it in that format on a big screen.

You don't get Disney Plus through your cable provider. You sign up directly with Disney for $6.99/month, and you can cancel after the first month.

I'm not sure how that would work. Does that mean you can only stream it on your laptop and not on your TV?

Google Chromcast. It's relatively cheap and you can stream anything from your laptop, desktop or phone to your tv.

It doesn’t cost much and will allow you to stream Disney Plus on your TV. While you’re at it, cancel your cable and get YouTubeTV. It’s only $65 and has most of the channels you get on cable. And you can watch it on 3 devices at once and on any device no matter where you are. Welcome to the 21st century.

ilw gave a comprehensive list. If you live in a google or apple world, Roku is less integrated. If you have no technology to speak of, then Roku works but if this is likely to be a one-time thing for you, it costs more than an hdmi cable.

Totally agree.

Ashamed to admit: I didn't get a Roku til 2016, when I finally got FIOS. The quality of your internet is critical, and I've loved my Roku experience every day since. But stubborn Luddite-Boomer that I am, I still have the damned cable box, too. Eventually, in the next 15 months, I'm simplifying. (I know I'm paying too much.)

It shouldn’t be a one time thing though. Something else will come along on some platform. Also- cable companies will go under eventually. I live in a google and Apple world and I have a Roku. You can search any title and it will show you every platform it is available on and how much if there is a cost. YouTubeTV and YouTube are both available and so is Apple TV so I’m not missing anything.

You can stream on any of the following devices:

Desktop web browsers.
Mobile devices and tablets (Android and Apple). ...
Smart TVs (LG WebOS, Samsung Tizen, Android TV, Vizio SmartCast, Roku TV)
Game consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One)
Streaming devices (Apple TV 4th Gen and later, Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Roku).

Here are two methods I use:
1) You can stream on your laptop and connect it to your TV via an HDMI cable for viewing, if your laptop has an HDMI port and your TV has an HDMI input.
2) Alternatively, you can stream it on your phone and connect it to your TV for viewing, but again only if your TV has an HDMI input. Also, you'll need an AV adapter to connect the phone to the TV.

ilw, seems like you know a fair bit about this, perhaps you can help me. I have a 2015 Samsung smart TV & purchased roku so I could see Hamilton on my big screen TV while also having access to my laptop. As a bonus I got a free 7 day subscription to BritBox & am working my way through that. However, I can't figure out how to 'turn off' roku and get back to my Spectrum DVR and watch my previously recorded programs. Even when I remove the HDMI cable from roku, all my video sources are showing up as black screens. Did I break my DVR when I signed up for roku? Please email me if you have any advice or respond here.

I'm no expert, but it doesn't sound like you broke your DVR if all your video sources are showing up as black screens. It sounds like your TV isn't recognizing any of your video sources. (I'm assuming that you're able to use your TV remote to change the video input.)

Try connecting your Spectrum DVR using a different input on your TV, if possible. If you use an HDMI connection from your DVR to your TV, maybe try connecting it to the same input that you used for your Roku.

Of course, when all else fails, turn everything off and then turn everything back on. In particular, be sure to reboot your DVR.

Maybe someone more familiar with Roku has some better idea of what's going on.

Slight correction to method #2 to stream on your phone and view on your TV: the AV adapter (for an iPhone, it's a Lightning Digital AV Adapter) connects the phone to the HDMI cable , not to the TV directly.

Your smart TV may not have the Disney app on its list of apps that you can use. That doesn't mean that any of the other ways ilw listed wouldn't work for you. For example, if you buy a Roku stick to plug into an HDMI port on your TV, then you can access the Disney app that's on that Roku stick. Of course, you would need to buy the Roku stick and also subscribe to the Disney service as well as have an internet connection that supports streaming video content.

If you have a fairly new "smart" TV, you can get Disney+ on it. If you have a streaming device, such as Roku, a Firestick, AppleTV, you can watch Disney+ on your TV as well. Otherwise, you can stream it on your computer, iPad, phone etc.... Watched a little bit on my iPad this morning - it's just beautifully done. Loved what I've seen so far.

And the heavy duty close ups of Jonathan Groff shows why the combination of Covid and close interaction is so dangerous for actors.

When you started the sentence with close ups of Jonathan Groff, I thought you were going to mention how delightful it was to see his facial expressions -- because that's what I was thinking! But yes, I was also wondering why they used a version that included a "spit-take" when I'm sure they had multiple versions to choose from....

That depends on your setup. If you have a smart TV, or something like a Roku, you should be able to cast to your TV. If your TV has an HTMI port, you can hook it up directly.

Actually I'm afraid of over-seeing it right now. I do think it's a brilliant piece. If it's eventually available on DVD, I will definitely buy it.

My nieces and nephews are from the Latino side of my family -- Lin-Manuel is God to them. I'm sure they'll be getting it so I'll be able to watch it at one of their homes if I want to.

And how many "forget" to cancel. Like gym memberships.

I didn't realize some parts were without an audience. Thought it was going to be pieced together from multiple love performances (it doesn't matter to me if either way).

my understanding is that they shot two live performances, and then did two days of close ups and additional numbers in between the two live performance shoots. I think this is how Lin has reported it.

According to the linked NY Times article, the filmed version is edited from two live performances captured with nine stationary cameras. These were a Sunday matinee and a Tuesday evening performance, and between those two shows the cast performed individual numbers with filming equipment onstage.

I've just finished watching it now, and it's a marvel. How wonderful to have a beautifully captured document of such an important and significant artwork.

Joe.

I wasn't in a rush to sign up even though I am a huge Disney fan ( I visited Disneyland in 1960 when I was 7... it still had that new theme park smell ) and have the DVD of every animated title Uncle Walt "worked" on ( including "Victory Through Airpower" and "Song Of The South" ). "Hamilton" was a big reason I signed up but the new material for the streaming service is terrific."Prop Culture" is not only fun but very emotional ( Tony Walton is reunited with the Mary Poppins costume he worked on DECADES ago ). "Imagineering" puts these creative names ( Mary Blair, Ward Kimball, etc ) in the spotlight and they deserved to be known. I got to visit the Disney studio in 1983 when the old backlots were still up... it's a very small studio but it's small output of titles has so much quality and emotion. And there is something to be said of watching a film or short with a few clicks of a remote control and not having to search for it in the closet.
What I am rambling on about is that I will keep my subscription past a month... the $6.99 is the same price as a package of Finlandia cheese. It was weird seeing the Disney logo before "Hamilton" starts. I'd suggest for new viewers to watch it with the subtitles, too, to really appreciate the words. I had seen "Hamilton" at the Public ( through Mary Ann Lamb I met a few of the dancers and they're all sweet, wonderful kids ) and at the Richard Rodgers... this filmed version was very well done! It's going to be fun to see how big a success this version will be!

That was the original plan with an announced date of October 2021. The pandemic changed the distribution methodology and planning, of course. I'm sure they could still make a small fortune by doing a future theatrical release. Earlier reports said it would only be available on Disney+ streaming in 2020. The original plans were October 2021 movie release with DVD/Blu-ray in 2022. Both could still happen assuming movie theaters are open by then.

I’m expecting it to make several return appearances to Disney Plus, so they can grab new subscribers. Disney used to do that with their VHS and DVDs of their old films—make them available for a limited time, pull then, then bring them back.
