Actually, DeVos was already on their board, appointed by GW Bush last decade. There was an arts management program that was named after her because she and her husband gave a big gift.
Kennedy Center board appointments are done by every President and often are given to supporters, so it's not a big leap to assume Roth is loyal enough to warrant the position. Maybe she lobbied for it? Don't really know. It's a good bet that the appointees at least support the party of the person doing the appointment. Has always been that way. Lots of other people make up the membership via staggered terms, though, so it is generally a bipartisan mix. |
