I agree. I think Billy Elliot is his best score, a true theatre score where the songs tell the story and illuminate the characters. Songs like "Solidarity", "Electricity", "The Stars Look Down", "Expressing Yourself", "Born to Boogie" are beautifully composed and written.
I love Aida's score as well -- my favorite song is "The Gods Love Nubia", but others like "My Strongest Suit", "A Step too Far", and "Written in the Stars" are incredibly catchy and in the best tradition of John's pop-flavored compositions. |
