In praise of B'way's Annaleigh Ashford

Having binged an infinite number of series/miniseries or the like since mid-March, I finally landed on "Unbelievable," a Netflix series with the great Toni Collette in the co-lead (and don't we still want her on B'way?), and in a small but critical role, Annaleigh Ashford. After starting this era admiring her two scene performance in the Hugh Jackman film, "Bad Education," I am more in awe of her range than ever. She can play just about anything, and bring remarkable specificity to the smallest role. I'm no fan of police procedurals, but "Unbelievable" hooked me. The new catch phrase, "when this is all over..." is already poignant and maybe exhausted. But I hope Ashford comes back to B'way. Oh, and her "Children and Art" in Sunday in the Park still cracks me open.

Actually, I find her far more compelling on screen than on stage, I love watching her on film but on stage she's kind of left me cold. She's absolutely TREMENDOUS in Masters of Sex. If you haven't seen it, I suggest you give it a watch. She's absolutely fantastic.

Jenna Russell was by far my favorite "Children of Art".

Couldn't agree more. She's a treasure. Hoping that she'll get to do SUNDAY in London someday.
