| Thanks for your thoughts on this subject. My own opinion is that those who were responsible for the banning of the word "gypsy" from GYPSY OF THE YEAR, etc. MIGHT have given some more thought to the situation and realized what a wonderful, positive thing it is that a word that was once considered derogatory had long ago been claimed by the theatrical community as a badge of honor. I deeply regret that this is not what happened, and the opposite tack of banning the word was taken. As a result of that, the word has not been completely returned to being a slur rather than an honorific. Nice work, folks. "Gay men have largely achieved equitable treatment in the Western World." Everything is relative, but seriously, that statement is borderline ridiculous, especially if you're taking account anything that happened before the present era. |
