National Theatre's The Deep Blue Sea (spoilers)
Posted by: mikem 11:45 pm EDT 07/16/20

I managed to see the National Theatre's The Deep Blue Sea before it came down. I thought Helen McCrory, whom I don't think I've seen before, was fantastic, and the other actors were also very good.

I was confused by whatever was supposed to be happening on the second level in between scenes. It wasn't captured on film very clearly. In the end credits, many of the ensemble members are listed with the names of the main characters, but I couldn't tell whether they were just listing the parts they were understudying (which I don't think has happened with the other NT screenings), or if they were supposed to be acting out part of the action upstairs. Any thoughts about the second level?

I found the music interesting, and I looked it up later. I should have realized that it would be anachronistic, because doo-wop wouldn't have been popular so soon after the war in Britain. The two main recordings, both by The Flamingoes, were released in 1959 and 1960.
