To me, what is offensive is your requirement that people must identify themselves how you would like them to identify themselves. Like telling a supporter of Black Lives Matter that they should call the movement African American Lives Matter because black offends you. Let show queens be show queens.

But "black" is not really used as an offensive term, as far as I know. "Queen" HAS been used in derogatory ways, and I suppose that's what offends ME as a gay man. Yes, one can certainly say that gay men can use the term among themselves in a way to reclaim it - that's absolutely valid - but I somehow still think that the term belittles rather than celebrates. Obviously you don't feel that way, and that's fine.

But where's this "requirement" you speak of? I'm not making any requirements or "musts." I'm discussing. At least I thought I was. I still think I am. Maybe this is not a discussion we should be having after all? I certainly didn't expect it would get this contentious. Maybe we all - including me - should just take a breath and move on?
