The action on the 2d floor showed us other tenants in the apt building. Seems an expensive directorial addition. There was something more to it than that. As mikem's observations suggest, they seemed like doppelgangers of the characters in the play proper. But we couldn't see them very well, at least on video. I had no problem hearing the husband.
