I saw it three times in the theatre and LOVED it. Makes such a difference having the music performed live, and Adam Gillen is the best Mozart I've seen since Tim Curry in the Peter Hall staging on Broadway 40 years ago --- damaged, demented, in thrall to a genius he can't begin to articulate but on which, man alive, can he deliver big time. Lucian is great, too, and thankfully doesn't play Salieri as merely a study in rhetoric, the way so many do.
It should have come to Lincoln Center and maybe one day it will? |
