Performers pulled out after heavy social media lobbying by fans who are supporters of Kennedy's primary opponent, Ed Markey, a longtime progressive champion and recent ally of the popular Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It seems that some performers quite understandably did not follow Massachusetts politics closely enough to grasp all the nuances of the political controversy they'd signed up for and were surprised by the blowback.
