One of the five is Hamilton.
Another one did it in 2011. The score was written by a team of 3 people.
Another one did it in 1996. As with Hamilton, the score and book were both written by the same single person.
Another one did it around Christmas of 2018, and is the only one that did not consist of material written for the stage. It is also the only one that did not win the Tony for Best Musical (which it could not have, since it was not eligible).
The last one is the only one that is not a recording of the original Broadway cast. It also hit the 32,000 mark in two formats: the full 2 CD/LP set, and a "Highlights" version. It is the only one that was released before 1991 (which makes its feat even more impressive - it hit the 32,000 mark as late as 1996). |
