"Are they seeing reports of violence on Fox News or elsewhere and creating an image of the entire city in flames, awash in thieves with guns? "
I'm not sure why their source of news is relevant. Does it matter if the story of the father being shot dead while crossing the street with his six year old daughter comes from Fox News or CNN? Does it matter if the stat that shootings are up 270% from the same time last year is being reported by Fox News or Newsweek?
As to where the crime is happening, I don't think it matters to them. They think of NYC as "Times Square". I know that's not the case, but that is what they are probably thinking.
Actually, the person who asked me last year if I was ever afraid to walk around NYC at night is not really a theater person and probably would never go into the city except on very rare occasions. I was just using that as an example that some people immediately think NYC=dangerous. The people I am talking about now are all people who have gone into the city with me in the past or have gone in with other friends/family for the specific purpose of seeing theater. |
