The Lortel archive is far from comprehensive, even though it does claim to be, which I'd forgotten and I'm surprised by. I see that it says on the home page:
"Welcome! The Lortel Archives, also known as the Internet Off-Broadway Database, provides a catalogue of all shows ever produced Off-Broadway."
I think it would be impossible to create a truly comprehensive Off-Broadway archive for several reasons. Having said that, this particular production was well documented so there is no particular reason I know of why it's not there except that there probably has never been the money to hire the kind of staff that ibdb must have hired to put together its database, which has tons of errors but is at least pretty comprehensive in terms of listing productions.
The Lortel archive is generally missing many Off-Broadway productions from the relatively early days of Off-Broadway as something officially distinct from Broadway. The late 1940s (when the distinction became official), the 1950s and the early 1960s are not at all well covered on the Lortel site. |
