| I am certainly not minimizing but most of these crimes are quite clearly attributable to economic dislocation resulting from the pandemic, that of course disproportionately affects the poor. We have to distinguish these crimes, awful as they are, from major crimes that plague many big cities. It remains safer here than most other places (which also have their share of homeless and poverty related crime right now). What's happening needs attention right now, but it really has nothing to do with tourists who, for the most part, are pariah in New York right now anyway. As horrible as that liquor store story is, I think the individual would still prefer that to having a bunch of maskless idiots endangering their life. Context. Let's not encourage the purveyors of right wing entropy propoganda agendas. |
